DHARAMSALA: Skipper Steve Smith hit a brisk 72 not out to steer Australia to 131-1 at lunch on the opening day of the series-deciding fourth Test against India on Saturday.
David Warner (54 not out) was the other not out batsman after Smith won the toss and elected to bat at Dharamsala, India's newest Test venue.
Umesh Yadav gave India an early breakthrough by dismissing opener Matt Renshaw but the Aussies overcame the loss to score at a brisk pace of more than four runs an over.
The hosts were without captain Virat Kohli, who is nursing a shoulder injury picked up during the drawn third Test in Ranchi.
