Pakistan didnt have the best of the start in their second Test match at the MCG, losing four wickets and managing to score just 144 runs on the first day. However, the second Day told a different story after the team bounced back thanks a gutsy show by opener Azhar Ali and Asad Shafiq.
Azhar went on to score his 12th Test century, his third against the Aussies after he slashed for two runs behind the wicket to fine leg.
The morning at the MCG belonged to Pakistan after Azhar Ali and Asad Shafiq added 115 runs in their fifth wicket partnership, Asad was dismissed on 50 as a blinder by Jackson Bird nick through Asads bat which was taken at slips by Steve Smith.
Azhar remained not out on 139 at stumps, and is just 19 runs short of Pakistan highest score by any batsman in Australia. Majid Khan 158 at MCG remains the top score by any Pakistani batsman in Australia.
Azhar performance was lauded by the Pakistan cricket team and the cricketing world, as he continues to enjoy a great 2016, becoming only the fifth Pakistani player to score 1,000+ Test runs in a calendar year.
