Pakistan as expected was defeated by the Australians in the first Test match at the Gabba, Brisbane. However, it ended up with winning most of the applause and hearts thanks to a remarkable counter attack initiated by the tail-enders and Asad Shafiq.
It ended up only 40 runs shot, of what could have been one of the greatest victories in Test cricket. Nevertheless, the defeat didnt stop the Pakistani team to add a number of records under their belt.
Pakistan middle order batsman Asad Shafiq, whose magnificent 137 runs knock, could be considered as one of the best batting displays by a Pakistani batsman. Asad managed to struck his tenth century overall, but it was his ninth triple digit inning batting at Number 6.
Asads ninth at the Gabba is the most by any batsman playing at 6th spot, as he went pass the West Indian legend Garry Sobers who had hit eight 100s at the position, as per the stats provided by ESPNcricinfo.
Pakistan score of 450, was the fourth highest by any team in the fourth innings, but was the highest ever by Pakistan and any team at the Gabba beating its previous best of 370 runs, convincingly.
On the less bright note, Pakistan's loss by 39 runs was the second smallest margin of defeat for a team scoring 400+ while chasing, after the Kiwis had lost by 38 runs after making 440 in Nottingham in 1973.
