manzoor-wasan 400KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Jails Manzoor Wasan, who paid surprise visit to Karachi Central Prison on Friday, ordered suspension of Assistant Superintendent of prison on the complaints of visitors.

 

Wasan met the inmates and took stock of the facilities being provided to them. He also enquired problems faced by the relatives of inmates and took the action against jail official on their complaints.

 

Minister also checked the sanitation, hygiene conditions and quality of food at the jail kitchen.

 

During a round to the wards, the prisoners informed him that they get potato curry and ‘Paratha’ at breakfast and evening tea regularly from last week.

 

Wasan also took round of the computer and fine arts section setup for the inmates.

 

Minister said Rs.33 per prisoner per day were being spent before the PPP government came into power but now this amount has been raised to Rs.115 with focus on improving the quality of food.

 

He said steps are being taken for installation of jammers, surveillance cameras and construction of concrete walls for the security of jails while procuring news vehicles for producing prisoners in the court is under consideration.

 

IG Jails Sindh Zafar Bukhari and other officials were present.
