Former Pakistan pace bowler Sarfraz Nawaz has surprised over T20 skipper Shahid Afridi’s decision to stay in Twenty20 Internationals after ICC World T20 in India.
According to media reports, “Afridi has passed his prime and hardly performed up to the mark in the Pakistan Super League,” Sarfraz said in an interview. “He took just ten wickets in the PSL and scored 87 runs which shows his decline”. “Pakistan has got a lot of [cricketing] talent and there is a need to give them exposure in international cricket,” he remarked.
“Pakistan has a number of talented bowlers who are better than Afridi, and can replace him. [Leg-spinner] Yasir Shah will be returning to international cricket next month to fill the gap [in case of Afridi’s retirement],” Sarfraz said.
Sarfraz’s comments came after Afridi said that he was reconsidering his intention to quit international cricket amidst huge pressure from his family and friends. Sarfraz said that Afridi took just ten wickets in PSL and scored 87 runs which showed his decline.
However, Afridi had announced his intention to retire from international cricket following the World T20, but now it appears he has not made up his mind.
