ISLAMABAD: Secretary Election Commission (ECP) of Pakistan Babar Yaqoob on Friday said that the Commission would fully support gender mainstreaming and greater political participation of women.
He was talking to media after chairing a meeting of civil society members on the issues pertaining to female voters' registration.
Additional Secretary ECP Sher Afghan informed the meeting that women registered votes were less as compared to man. Stressing the need for steps to improve participation of women in next elections, he said it was unfortunate that around one million women were without identity cards. He said the ECP was endeavouring to issue ID cards to women and NADRA was extending full supports in this regard.
The participants noted that women registration in different areas was very low and there was need to chalk out separate strategies, keeping in view the cultural aspects of each area.
They proposed that parliamentarians and donor agencies be taken on board to increase women participation in electoral process.
