imageISLAMABAD: The Senate was informed on Thursday that by November 27, 2013 as many as 1082 cases of missing persons have been registered across the country.

Minister of State for Interior Baleeghur Rehman informed the House that number of missing persons in the Commission of Inquiry of Enforced Disappearances stands at 813 and number of cases in Supreme Court are 304.

Replying to the questions during question hour, the Minister said, number of missing persons cases in Lahore High Court are 14, in Sindh High Court the number is 174, in Peshawar High Court 101 and in Balochistan High Court the number of registered cases is 22 while 40 cases have been reported from FATA.

The minister however expressed concerns over the number from Balochistan saying that though this number is less but as compared to population, its ratio is more than other regions.

He informed the House that figure about missing persons is collected through Missing Persons Commission, Intelligence agencies and the provincial courts.

He further stated that provincial governments, AJK, GB and ICT have been requested to provide the number of mutilated bodies recovered in the country since 2001. Nil report has been received from IG of Police Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) while reports from remaining are awaited.

Answering a question about cyber crimes in the country and their prevention, the minister said, there are five reporting centres for the cyber crimes and the number of complaints being received by them are properly entertained. "However, since the cyber crimes are on rise, the number complaints received by these centers could be re-checked."

He assured the House to set up more centres if and when required as per rising number of future complaints.

He also mentioned to grey trafficking in telephone calls and said, effective working of the concerned departments to check this phenomenon has averted a loss of Rs 1500 to the nation.

He said the number of raids to apprehend those involved in cyber crime during 2013 is more than the raids conducted during last five years.

Assuring more steps for awareness to counter cyber crimes, the minister informed the House that Ministry of Information Technology has prepared "Prevention of Electronic Crimes Bill 2013" for placing before the Parliament for its enactment.

A special unit namely national response Center for Cyber Crimes under FIA has been established to counter cyber crimes, he said. This unit has the mandate of law enforcement, public awareness, formulation of information security policy and assistance to other government departments specifically pertaining to electronic crimes.
