imageKARACHI: Sindh Minister for Finance and Energy, Murad Ali Shah here on Tuesday said that the provincial government extensively engaged in developing renewable energy projects will strictly comply with tariff notified by NEPRA.

Talking to journalists, he said Sindh is endowed with renewable energy potential of solar, wind and other resources including identified wind corridor of 50,000 MW.

"A number of wind and solar energy projects are being processed

by the Sindh government to mitigate the persisting energy crisis," he said.

The Sindh Minister for Finance and Energy said a pragmatic approach has also been adopted to make optimum of this including provision for development support framework as well as special incentives for manufacturing of renewable energy equipment.

He in reply to a question dispelled the impression being created by the media regarding any restriction imposed on fresh wind or solar based energy generating schemes in the country.

The provincial minister in most categorical terms said these reports hold no truth and that consequent to publications of such news stories he also had a detailed meeting with the Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad who too denied these.

"I was told that focus of the federal government is towards optimal utilization of indigenous resources especially the renewable energy," said the Minister.

Syed Murad Ali Shah said presently the share of renewable energy in Pakistan's energy mix is minimal whereas other developing countries have set ambitious targets to enhance the share of renewable energy sources.

He also mentioned that being indigenous, clean and economical resources renewable energy projects are considered most viable option for import substitution, reducing basket price of energy and to offset the environmental impacts of fossil fuels.
