imageSANGHAR: Polling to elect local government (LG), representatives for 23 wards of Municipal Committee Tando Adam and two union councils (UCs), Ghujrro and Harbari of district Sanghar will be held Thursday (February 25) amid strict security arrangements.

The polling would start at 8:00 am and it will continue till 5.00 pm.

All arrangements including security for conducting polls has been finalized. Polling staff along with polling material has reached at polling stations with security.

As many as 72 polling stations and 218 polling booths have been established to facilitate the voters to exercise their right of franchise.

Out of 72 polling stations, 32 were declared highly sensitive, 30 sensitive and 10 were declared normal, Official of Election Commission told APP.

It is pertinent to mention that polling for MC Tando Adam has earlier, been postponed thrice; once due to delimitation issue and litigation process and twice for the reason of potential law and order situation.

According to ECP statistics, total number of registered voters in Municipal Committee (MC), Tando Adam was 70,933 among them 39,000 were male and 31,933 female.

Total 57 polling stations have been set up for elections of the MC including 32 for male, 24 for female and one combined polling station.

There are 168 candidates including two women contesting from 23 wards of the MC.

For 9437 registered voters of union council (UC), Harbari 8 polling stations and 28 polling booths have been established while 14 candidates were in the run.

In the union council Ghujhro, 7 polling stations having 24 polling booths are set up to facilitate 6551 registered voters who would choose their favourite candidates from 19 contesting candidates.

Strict security arrangements have been planned throughout the taluka for peaceful conduct of elections.

Two SSPs, eight DSPs, 1400 police personnel, 300 personnel of Special Police Unit and 300 Jawans of Rangers have been deployed to maintain law and order situation.

Deputy Commissioner Sanghar, Umar Farooque Bullo announced public holiday throughout the district on polling day so that every voter could easily cast the vote.

Close contest was expected between Pakistan People's Party, who already got convincing majority in the district council, and Tando Adam Shehri Ittehad supported by Muttehda Qoumi Movement and Muslim League Functional.
