imageKARACHI: Lyari remained in the grip of tension and arsons on Thursday after the slain Lyari Peace Committee leader, Zafar Baloch and his bodyguard Ghani Baloch were laid to rest at Mewa Shah graveyard.

Earlier hundreds of peoples including Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Najmi Alam, Abdul Qadir Patel and Provincial Minister for Kachi Abadi Javed Nagori attended the funeral prayers offered at Lyari football ground.

It should be mentioned that Zafar Baloch, along with his bodyguard was killed in the limits of Kalakot police on Wednesday.

Tension gripped Lyari and adjacent areas following the killing of Zafar Baloch as heavy contingents of police and Rangers were deployed in Lyari following the incident.

Business, trade centers, educational institutions and routine activities remained suspended in the restive areas due to law and order situation.

SSP Faisal Bashir Memon said that security has been fortified around Red Zone.

He said that Rangers and police personnel have been deployed at the main entry points of the Red Zone, who have set up pickets and checkpoints strategically.

Moreover all the roads leading to Chief Minister House have been blocked with shipping containers guarded by security men.

Governor House was also covered under thick layers of security.

Arson and aerial firing continued in the restive areas since Baloch’s murder.
