imageISLAMABAD: New French Ambassador, Ms Martine Dorance Tuesday said that French companies were keen in investing in the automobile industry and setting up assembling plants in Pakistan.

In her meeting with Federal Minister for Industries and Production, Ghulam Murtaza Khan Jatoi here, she informed that major interest was shown by Renault-Nissan Alliance, a Franco-Japanese strategic partnership between automobile manufacturers Renault, based in Paris, France, and Nissan, based in Yokohama, Japan, which together sell more than one in 10 cars worldwide.

She said a delegation of businessmen could visit Pakistan at the beginning of next year, adding, the stakeholders from specific sectors could meet their Pakistani counterparts on such visits.

The Ambassador opined that concessions could be given in the start to new French entrants to which the Minister agreed that specific concessions had been added as a strategy in the new Auto Policy 2015.

Ms Dorance added that localization of spare parts by French companies could also be discussed to assist the infrastructure of French cars assembly.

The Minister said that the Pakistani market had a high demand for smaller cars keeping in mind the income level of its people

Ghulam Murtaza Jatoi also discussed the possibility of green technology and wind energy cooperation between both countries.

He assured full cooperation of his Ministry besides removing all hindrances to attract foreign investment.

The Minister said that Pakistan was located at a strategic location and while France was an important country in Europe.

Both the countries should enhance their bilateral cooperation in trade and industries.

The Federal Secretary, Ministry of Industries and Production was also present.
