Restrictions to be lifted in IoK in next few days, Indian govt tells Supreme Court

India's federal government informed the Supreme Court on Friday that it will lift restrictions on people’s movements and communication links in occupied Kashmir in the next few days.

The SC was hearing a petition seeking the restoration of telephone and internet services in IoK which were suspended when India revoked the special status given to occupied Kashmir. According to Indian media, government sources have said that schools will reopen in IoK from August 19.

Meanwhile, Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi adjourned another petition filed by Manohar Lal Sharma which challenged the government’s move to abrogate Article 370. During the hearing, Gogoi said that Sharma's petition has 'no meaning'.

Shut down in IoK has reached its 13th consecutive day on Friday. Internet and phone communications have been cut and tens of thousands of troop reinforcements have been deployed in occupied Kashmir.
