Accountability court indicts Shehbaz Sharif, son in Ramzan Sugar Mills case

An accountability court indicted on Tuesday Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif and his son Leader of the opposition in the Punjab Assembly Hamza Shehbaz in the Ramzan Sugar Mills case.

Both the PML-N leaders appeared before the court after they were summoned by it. During the hearing, Judge Najam ul Hassan indicted the father-son duo. Both the leaders pleaded not guilty to the charges, local media reported.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has accused Shehbaz of using public funds for the construction of a bridge linking to their mills in Chiniot, Punjab. Shehbaz has already been indicted in the Ashiana Housing scheme case for corruption. The Lahore High Court has granted bail to the PML-N president and his son in the corruption cases.

Ramazan Sugar Mills case: Court defers indictment of Shehbaz, son till March 27

On Monday, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) offloaded Mohammad Mushtaq alias Chini, a manager of the Ramzan Sugar Mills who was attempting to flee to Dubai. Chini was taken into the FIA's custody.

The manager is alleged to be the frontman for a Sharif family member and had reportedly gone underground after the PML-N president was arrested.  NAB will investigate Mushtaq in connection with a sum of Rs600 million he transferred to the account of Salman Shehbaz, Shehbaz's son.
