imageTHATTA: President of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain announced on Saturday that every poor child aged between four to 12 years would be provided Rs 250 monthly for the acquisition of education.
While addressing an inauguration ceremony of Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) Waseela-e-Taleem at Makli, Hussain said that 6.7 million children are deprived of education but this scheme will help them in eradicating illiteracy rate through providing education to deprived children.

‘Crime rate and extremism have increased due to poverty and ignorance; however, living standard of the people would be made high by providing benefit from this scheme to poor people,’ the president said.

He said that Pakistan is facing major issues like poverty, ignorance, lawlessness, terrorism, extremism and load shedding, adding poor children would be provided opportunities to acquire education. ‘The government is offering full chances for the social and economic development through its different schemes like Benazir Income Support Program,’ he said.

Meanwhile, the president appreciated the efforts of the Pakistan Army in eradicating terrorism and extremism, ‘Zarb-e-Azb and Karachi operation have yielded positive result’, he said. Mamnoon said that the country is facing serious challenges including shortage of resources due to corruption in the past.

While talking on the occasion, British High Commissioner said that England is providing its full support to Pakistan for the economic development.

Chairman BISP Marvi Memon said that this program would benefit the poor women and their children, and they will have opportunities to stand at their feet. She warned that any corruption or embezzlement would not be tolerated in this program.
