ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Thursday restored the Punjab Assembly membership of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) Chaudhry Muhammad Ashraf Warraich and issued notices to the respondents.
The three-member bench headed by Justice Mian Saqib Nisar comprising Justice Muhammad Ather Saeed and Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed heard the petition filed by Ashraf Warraich against the Election Tribunal decision.
The bench after hearing arguments provisionally restored the membership of Ashraf Warraich elected from PP-97 and adjourned hearing till October 15.
It is pertinent to mention here that Ch. Ashraf had won the elections from constituency PP-97 of Gujranwala and Nasir Cheema of Pakistan Muslim league Quaid-e-Azam (PML-Q) had challenged the electoral results in the Election Tribunal on the accusation of rigging in 33 polling stations of the constituency.
Election tribunal had therefore cancelled the membership of Ch. Ashraf Warraich and ordered to hold elections in the constituency again.
