imageWe all know Microsoft wants to become the number one internet browser and with the release of Edge, it seems that it wants to reach the spot sooner than expected.

In this regard, Microsoft would like you to stop using Chrome and other internet browsers, so you could switch to Edge instead, and a new ad by Microsoft shows exactly why as Chrome is terrible for battery life, along with Firefox and Opera.

As per Microsoft advertisement, showing Edge lasted 70 percent longer than Chrome, 43pc longer than Firefox and 17pc longer than Opera. Even for non-video tasks, Microsoft claims Edge lasts 36 to 53 percent longer than its competition.

According to Computer World, Microsoft supports its Edge power-saving capability through different tests. “First, we measured their power consumption in a controlled lab environment. Second, we examined the real-world energy telemetry from millions of Windows 10 devices. Finally, we recorded time-lapse videos of each browser performing the same tasks until the battery dies. Microsoft Edge wins out in every case, which translates to longer battery life for you,” said Microsoft in a blog post.

imageThe lab environment test used Surface Books browsing with Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Opera. Each device completed the same tasks, “opening websites, scrolling through articles, and watching videos, opening new tabs for each task. We used the same websites you spend your time on – Facebook, Google, YouTube, Amazon, Wikipedia and more.”

Microsoft also boasted that a study by Wall Street Journal “arrived at the same conclusion, declaring Microsoft Edge to be the most power-efficient browser for both general purpose browsing and streaming.”

However, share wise Edge is nowhere, as Net Market Share shows that only 4.99pc users used Edge in May 2016, whereas, StatCounter Global Stats put Edge usage at 2.54pc so far this month.
