ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani in a letter to his outgoing cabinet colleagues has recalled the circumstances when the government was installed in early 2008 and the country was in turmoil for more than one reason.

The Prime Minister said tragic assassination of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, restoration of judiciary, economic meltdown, specter of terrorism, strife in Balochistan, all presented situations rooted in a prolonged era of dictatorship.

Facing it was an onerous task, to say the least. What was at stake was not the credibility of government alone but actually failure on its part would have spelt doom for the entire political system, the Prime Minister elaborated.

The Prime Minister said that it was indeed a pleasant experience to have such illustrious colleagues in the cabinet.

The Prime Minister eulogized the sagacity, political acumen, devotion to duty and patriotism of the outgoing ministers which contributed not only to their persons but also to the reputation of cabinet collectively.

The Prime Minister further said that 76 meetings of the cabinet took some very important decisions for the betterment of the people.

The Prime Minister said that the liaison between the parliament and cabinet was excellent which is manifest from the effect that he personally participated in all sessions of the parliament to address issues of national importance from the floor of the house.

This was all due to full support and presence of the cabinet colleagues in the Parliament, the Prime Minister added.

The Prime Minister honoured the great role of cabinet in waging war against terror, announcement of NFC Award, passage of 18th and 19th constitutional amendments, initiating `Aghaz-e-Haqooq- e-Balochistan', granting political rights to the people of Gilgit- Baltistan, restoration of judiciary and setting traditions of consensus in politics, the Prime Minister expressed that with the support of his cabinet colleagues he was able to take decisions in the best national interest for achieving the common goal of welfare of masses.

The Prime Minister expressed the hope that he would continue to bank on their services as parliamentarians and patriot Pakistanis.

The Prime Minister assured his out going cabinet colleagues that he would always associate with them as a friend and a colleague.
