Taylor Swift has become the first female singer to beat herself to top the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. Swift’s ‘Shake it Off’ remained on top for past three weeks but ‘Blank Space’, new single by Taylor Swift pushed it down to take the top spot.
According to media reports, Billboard announced that Swift became the first woman in history to succeed herself on the charts. Last week, ‘Shake It Off’ returned to the chart summit thanks to 1989’s high profile release. And now, with the semi-leak/semi-official release of her ‘Blank Space’ music video, that single leads the charts.
‘Blank Space’ makes the biggest leap to number one so far in 2014, going from number thirteen to number one on U.S Billboard chart.
Taylor Swift latest album is a huge success surely doesn’t come as a surprise to anyone. The album has just surpassed the two million sales mark.
Swift is the 10th person to have beaten her own song, other includes names like the Beatles, Usher and the Black Eyed Peas. Swift's record has sold more than 2 million copies so far, becoming the 2nd best album of 2014, after Disney’s ‘Frozen’ soundtrack.
