bannu---BANNU: District Police Officer (DPO), Dr. Waqar Ahmed Monday said that two suicide bombers tried to attack Kakki police station here Monday were killed and area was cleared.

 

Talking to reporters here, Bannu police have added a new chapter of chivalry in the province's police history by frustrating terrorists attack on Kakki police station this morning. 

 

He said police have bravely fought against terrorists and foiled their bid to take control of the Kakki police station.

 

He said six persons including three policemen were martyred in the militants' attack.

 

He said the whole nation held their sacrifices in high esteem and such cowards act could not shake the moral of Police. 

 

The DPO rejected the impression that five suicide bombers carried out the attack.

 

Waqar said it was believed that both the bombers have spent the night in the mosque located near the police station before trying to launch an attack on Kakki police.

 

He said the outlaws, who have covered their faces with 'Chadar' when reached at the security's barrier setup some 100 yards away of the building police station, were asked by sentries to stop for search.

 

Instead, the bombers opened firing on policemen that was retailed with full might.

 

One of the bombers rushed to the nearby mosque and made hostage people came to perform Fajr prayers while the other continued firing on police.

 

In the meantime, the outlaws hurled hand grenades and started firing on the local residents, who came for the help of police while the other blasted his explosive vest, killing three policemen and three civilians on the spot and eight others injured including four policemen.

 

He said both assailants were killed.

 

He said loss of precious lives could have been averted if the local people timely informed police about presence of bombers in mosque. 

The DPO said sacrifices of martyrs policemen would not go waste.

 

He said moral of police are very high and ready to counter any eventuality.

 

He said such attacks could not deter determination of Police.

 

The DPO said emergency has been enforced in DHQ hospital and best medical treatment is being provided to the wounded.
