imageISLAMABAD: Former fast bowler Sarfraz Nawaz said Pakistan played with patience and strong nerves till the last moment of the match, which led them to victory.

Talking to APP on Tuesday, he said the way Pakistan team defeated Sri Lanka was praise-worthy.

Sarfraz said chasing 300 runs target was not an easy task but the national team achieved i and leveled the series 1-1.

Pakistan beat the Islanders by 5 wickets on the last day of the match chasing the target of 302 runs in 57.3 overs with a run rate of 5.25.

Azhar Ali played a life time knock of 103 runs on 137 balls while skipper Misbah-ul-Haq scored 68 on 72 balls. Wicket-keeper batsman Sarfraz Ahmed also played a handy inning of 48 runs on 46 balls featuring the all important partnership of 89 runs with Azhar Ali.

He said the approach of Sri Lanka was negative from the very first day as they tried to consume as much time as possible to draw the match.

The legendary fast bowler while praising the captaincy of Misbah-ul-Haq said Misbah had proved that he had ability to lead the team and those criticizing him have now got the answer.

"The change Misbah brought in the batting order, by sending Sarfraz up, was an excellent decision as he (Sarfraz) along with Azhar Ali constructed a match winning partnership," Sarfraz mentioned.

He said had Sri Lanka played positive cricket, the result would have been different.

Sarfraz, who introduced reverse swing in international cricket, further said the team had given an excellent farewell to Coach Dav Whatmore.

"This victory would enhance the confidence of the team which would be helpful in the coming Asia cup and World T20," he added.

Sarfraz advised the team management to prepare well for the all important upcoming events with special attention to the physical fitness of the players.

If Pakistan played with the same positive mindset, they could emerge victorious in Asia Cup and World T20 as well, Sarfraz concluded.
