imageLAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that 60 percent population of Pakistan comprises youth which augurs well for the future of the country.

Talking to a delegation of elected representatives of PML-N, here on Wednesday, he said the Punjab government had taken historic and unique measures for empowerment of the youth for ensuring a bright future for the country. He said that provision of resources for welfare programmes of the youth was useful investment.

Chief minister said the PML-N government was implementing the agenda of public service and provision of basic amenities to the masses was in the light of its manifesto.

He said that funds were considered a trust of the nation and every penny of public money was being spent honestly only on the projects of progress and prosperity of the masses. "Self-Employment Scheme, Punjab Educational Endowment Fund, Daanish Schools, Metro Bus Service, Ashiyana Housing Scheme and other welfare programmes are a good example of utilization of public money on the progress of the people", he added.

He said that a large number of poor people were benefiting from unprecedented welfare programmes of Punjab government. Shahbaz Sharif said that a big programme of skill development was also running successfully and scope of this programme started from southern Punjab was being extended to the whole province.

He said that skill development programme was aimed at empowerment of youth and thousands of male and female youth had been imparted various skills under this programme.

The Chief Minister said that annual amount of Punjab Educational Endowment Fund was being increased from Rs 2 billion to Rs 4 billion and the number of educational scholarships for talented and deserving student was also being increased.

He said that scholarships had been given on merit to brilliant boys and girls of 100,000 poor families from Punjab Educational Endowment Fund. "Talented but less-privileged students of Sindh, Baluchistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Kashmir, FATA and Gilgit-Baltistan have also been included in this splendid programme which is promoting national solidarity", he added.

He said that sit-ins and protest politics last year created hurdles in the process of progress of the country, adding that it also interrupted welfare programmes for the youth.

However, he said, if there was a strong determination and spirit of public service, every hurdle could be overcome in the way of progress and prosperity of the masses. He said the goal of progress and prosperity would be achieved through hard work and tireless efforts.

He said that poverty, ignorance, unemployment and energy shortage would be eliminated from the country and it would be transformed in accordance with the vision of Quaid and Iqbal.

Elected representatives while speaking on the occasion said the Punjab government led by Shahbaz Sharif had taken historic measures for the development of the province and an effective strategy had been adopted for the empowerment of youth. They said that steps taken by Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif were yielding positive results and completion of mega projects was resulting in relief to the people.
