imageMULTAN: General Manager, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL),Amjad Mumtaz said on Friday that 45000 new domestic gas connections would be provided to citizens in the year 2016-17 in Multan region which comprises many districts of southern Punjab.

The GM SNGPL told APP that SNGPL showed almost 100 per cent increase this year in giving connections to new consumers due to improved gas supply, adding that it was double than the connections installed last year.

He added that these 45000 new gas connections also included 5000 urgent cases wherein people deposited extra amount to get gas connections on priority in accordance with the 10 per cent quota allotted to urgent cases.

The number of pending gas connection requests would reduce to 100,000 after completion of this exercise, he added.

Amjad Mumtaz disclosed that SNGPL supplies gas with low pressure from 10 pm to 6 am every day to so that the gas remain packed and available at good pressure during the cooking hours to facilitate domestic consumers.

It was being done in accordance with the gas load management plan, he added.

He brushed aside the impression that gas supply remains low even during cooking hours.

It might be a rare possibility during the maintenance work but not when the system is running normally, he stressed.

He said that SNGPL was supplying 85000 mmcf per day throughout the region against a demand of 150,000 mmcf per day.

GM SNGPL disclosed that a crackdown would be launched early next month against consumers using compressors to improve gas pressure illegally and violators would be dealt in accordance with the law.

He said that as per instructions received so far, gas supply to CNG and industrial sector would continue throughout the winter season.
