Govt to prolong school holidays, ban public gathering in Karachi as coronavirus spikes

• The Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has also been suggested to ban large public gatherings, like Pakistan Super League.
• In Karachi, 13 people have tested positive for the disease.

Following the new nine coronavirus cases in Karachi, the Sindh government is expected to issue an advisory for people to avoid large public gatherings and to prolong the school holidays.

The Sindh health department held a meeting chaired by Sindh Minister of Health and Population Welfare Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho on Tuesday. The meeting decided to set up a frontline desk in all public and private hospitals. It also recommended setting up of a health desk at the airport to screen all the patients coming to Karachi, local media reported.

The Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has also been suggested to ban large public gatherings, like Pakistan Super League. A recommendation to shut schools for a longer period has also been sent to Sindh CM.

On Monday night, Special Assistant to Prime Minister Imran Khan (SAPM) on Health Dr Zafar Mirza confirmed that nine new cases of coronavirus have emerged in Karachi.

The new number of confirmed cases takes the toll to 16 in Pakistan. In Karachi, 13 people have tested positive for the disease.
