  • The Law Ministry has been directed to move summary for his appointment today.
  • Khalid Javed Khan will replace Anwar Mansoor Khan.

Following the resignation of Anwar Mansoor Khan, Prime Minister Imran Khan has decided to appoint Khalid Javed Khan as new attorney general of Pakistan (AGP).

The Law Ministry has been directed to move summary for his appointment today, local media reported.

Khalid has already served as AGP during the interim government headed by former Justice Nasir Mulk. He was appointed AGP on June 21, 2018. However, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf replaced him with Anwar on August 31st, 2018.

He is an expert in vast areas of law, including constitutional law, income tax, sales tax, customs, land matters, banking law and service laws.

On Thursday, Anwar submitted his resignation letter to President Arif Alvi. “I note with profound regret that the Pakistan Bar Council, of which I am the Chairman, has demanded through its press release dated 19th of February 2020 that I resign forthwith from the Office of the Attorney General of Pakistan."

Both the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) and Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) had demanded the resignation of Anwar following his controversial statement regarding a full-court bench hearing Justice Qazi Faez Isa's case. The bench has been hearing the presidential reference against Justice Isa for not disclosing the foreign assets of his family.
