Pakistan middle order batsman Umar Akmal, known for eccentricities both on and off the field is eager to make an international return and perform for his deceased mother and father-in-law Abdul Qadir at the upcoming T20I match against Sri Lanka.

“I would try my level best to perform in the upcoming T20I, and would dedicate my performance to my mother and my father-in-law Abdul Qadir,” said Akmal in a video.

The middle order batsman, who despite being a talented batsman was unable to maintain his place in the national side due to disciplinary issues, said that the late Abdul Qadir wanted him to return to international cricket and he now aims to cement his place in the team.

“My father-in-law [Abdul Qadir] wanted me to play a comeback series soon. I have set a number of goals that includes making a permanent place in the team for myself"

Akmal, who last represented Pakistan in T20I back in 2016 against West Indies said that he is eager to perform in front of his home crowd.“I am really excited to play in front of my home crowd at Lahore,” he said.

Pakistan will meet Sri Lanka for the first T20I tonight (Saturday) at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. Pakistan has already won the One Day International (ODI) series 2-0 after the first match of the series was washed out.
