Pakistan veteran middle order batsman Shoaib Malik booked his team the Vancouver Knights a place in the finals of GlobalT20 Canada, thrashing Shahid Afridi’s Brampton Wolves in the first qualifier of the tournament at Brampton.

Malik top scored for his side with 46 off 26 deliveries, featuring three maximums and four boundaries, breaking glasses in the process the cricket veteran took his side to a respectable target of 170 at the loss of four wickets in 16 overs.

Meanwhile, Afridi’s Wolves collapsed on 103 in 14 overs, with Knights pacer Saad bin Zafar picking up four wickets for 22 in his bowling spell, and Daniel Sams claimed three wickets, allowing Knights a massive win by 77 runs and securing their place in the finals of GT20 again.

Malik, who has already announced his retirement from both Test and One Day International (ODI) cricket, and will now only represent Pakistan in T20I cricket was not awarded the central contract by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Thursday, alongside teammate Mohammad Hafeez.

However, despite not being offered the central contracts, the board said that the two cricketers will remain available for selection.
