Aqib Javed believes Pakistan should rest Mohammad Amir

Former Pakistan fast bowlers Aqib Javed has suggested that Pakistan should have given more opportunity to Hasan Ali and instead rest Mohammad Amir as he has not been among the wicket takers lately.

“No doubt since making comeback into international cricket, Amir has not been able to perform consistently. So I believe that instead of dropping Hasan Ali we should have rested Amir in order to have a team with more wicket taking options,” said Javed, while talking to local media.

“If we are using Amir just to contain the innings, then one can’t say that he is our number one bowler,” Javed opined.

The fast bowler has been going through a dry patch lately. Amir went wicketless in six ODIs straight before the streak finally broke down in the previous fourth ODI against South Africa, where he claimed 1 wicket for 26 runs.

Overall the speedster has only managed to pick up two wickets in his last 10 ODI appearances.

With the series evenly poised at 2-2, Pakistan, under the captaincy of stand-in skipper, Shoaib Malik will take on South Africa in the series decider on Wednesday at Newlands, Cape Town.
