UK GAS-Prices fall on healthy supply, lower demand

LONDON: British wholesale gas prices continued to decline on Thursday morning due to healthy supply and low demand due to warmer-than- average temperatures.

Day-ahead gas price 0.50 pence lower at 70.50 pence per therm at 0747 GMT

Gas for immediate delivery fell by 0.95 pence to 70.45 p/therm

Temperatures are expected to be warmer than normal until the weekend.

Peak wind generation is expected to be 6.4 gigawatts on Thursday but fall to 3.2 GW on Friday, according to Elexon data.

Perenco flows into the Bacton terminal have returned to normal following an outage.

Flows from Norway through the Langeled pipeline at around 40-45 mcm/day following a volatile start to the week due to continental pipeline maintenance, Refinitiv analysts said.

The system is largely balanced with demand forecast at 181 million cubic metres (mcm) and flows at 184 mcm/day, according to National Grid data.

Several nuclear reactors are offline, totalling around 2.7 gigawatts The day-ahead UK baseload power price  is 0.50 pounds higher at 67.00 pounds per megawatt hour.

In the Dutch gas market, the day-ahead gas price at the Dutch TTF hub was flat at 27.00 euros per megawatt hour.

Benchmark Dec-18 EU carbon contract up 0.12 euro at 21.30 euros a tonne.
