A group of candidates of Union Council-30 Banamari, Peshawar, opposed the re-polling scheduled on July 5 in the area, and demanding of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to conduct re-polling after the Eid-ul-Fitr. The demand was made by district council candidates from PPPP Salam Khan Orakzai, PML-N Nazar Khan, and Town council candidates from PML-N Wisal Khan, PPPP Syed Shah Hussain, and others, while speaking at a news conference at press club here on Sunday.
They rejected the re-polling scheduled on July 03 in UC 30, as announced by Election Commission of Pakistan, and demanding to hold the re-election after the upcoming Eid.
The candidates said they would move to Peshawar High Court against the schedule today (Monday). They said if the superior judiciary was failed to provide them justice, then they would compel to protest against it, as well as boycott from the re-polling.
The aspirants said it was quite difficult for them to campaign for election in holy month of Ramazan, as voters didn't bother to listen them. Similarly, they viewed the voters turnout will not be good due to hot and humid weather in Peshawar.
During 30th May local bodies polls, the candidates said a number of incidents had occurred due to hot weather. But, they stated the situation is not favourable for voters to come out from their homes to cast vote amid hot and humid weather and holy month of Ramazan. Therefore, he demanded of the Election Commission of Pakistan to review its schedule for re-polling in Banamari UC-30, district Peshawar.
