Pakistan Muslim League (Like-Minded) on Saturday elected new office bearers in a party convention, amid calls for holding early general election in the country. The party elected Arbab Ghulam Rahim unopposed president, Hamid Nasir Chattha chairman, Humayun Akhtar, general secretary, Salim Saifullah Khan as chairman of the party's steering committee and Kashmala Tariq as information secretary.
Addressing the convention, Humayun Akhtar stressed that all the state institutions should work within their domains and should avoid conflicts among them. The party, by holding elections for new office bearers after three years, he added, has made a sincere effort to end the hereditary politics in the country.
The party passed some resolutions, which include eradication of rampant corruption, control of sky-rocketing inflation and urging the government to avoid the looming clash between institutions to run the country smoothly. The party also condemned the US congressional committee on foreign affairs hearing regarding Balochistan unrest, terming it highly irresponsible, as it is a direct interference in the internal affairs of an independent and sovereign state.
"We cannot surrender our sovereignty in the name of globalisation," the party said in the resolution, adding that the US itself did not have a clear track record on various issues and should improve its image first before meddling into affairs of any other country.
