Deepika wants to feel ‘protected’ after getting death threats

‘Padmavati’ makers and lead actors, especially Deepika Padukone, have been in distress followed by the death threats to her and her family and the ‘Piku’ says she would like to feel 'safer and protected' at this point.

Bollywood diva sat down for an interview in this crucial time with BBC World News, ‘Talking Movies: India Special’, voicing her opinion on the whole controversy. In a way Deepika demanded to get better protection from the state, "In an ideal world, yes. I think it is too soon to tell... But yes it would be nicer to feel safer or protected at this point", she said.

‘Padmavati’ is a tale of a queen, Rani Padmavati, her life and struggles as she sees her husband Maharawal Ratan Singh played by Shahid Kapoor lose the battle against Alauddin Khilji, who was warrior king essayed by Ranveer Singh.

This plot hasn’t gone that well with the Hindu groups of BJP and especially Karni Sena, who accuse the movie makers of portraying a love connection between Khilji and their ancestor queen Padmavati based on the epic poem ‘Padmavat’ by Malik Muhammad Jayasi.

Talking about all the protests surrounding the project, Deepika said, "It is hurtful and it is sad. Cinema has the power to bring the people together, to unite people and to spread love. It is disheartening sometimes that people don't recognize that."

The release date of the movie has already been postponed to an indefinite period amidst these threats and there are other rumors saying that ‘Padmavati’ might as well face a ban in most part of the country considering its sensitive nature.
