BAGHDAD: Iraq's Trade Ministry is seeking 50,000 tonnes of wheat in an international tender, it said on Sunday.

The deadline for offers is Nov. 26 and offers must remain valid until Nov. 30, the ministry said.

Iraq is looking to buy wheat of U.S., Australian or Canadian origin.

A previous tender announced on Nov. 1 seeking the same amount of wheat with a Nov. 5 deadline seems to have been withdrawn, Baghdad-based sources said. nL8N1N74C1

Iraq struck a direct purchase deal to buy 500,000 tonnes of U.S. wheat from Cargill, ADM and an unidentified firm earlier this month.

Iraq's cabinet in May authorised the ministry of trade to make direct purchases of wheat and rice to guarantee food security.
