Pasban Pakistan staged a demonstration in front of Multan Press Club under the leadership of Umar Mughal, organiser of Pasban. Participants were carrying placards and banners inscribed with slogans," Release Dr Aafia Siddiqui, Daughter of Pakistan is still behind bars", Human Rights Organisation are lip tightened why"?
Addressing the rally Umar Mughal, Javed Siyal, Bilal Nasir, Mohsin Bhutta, Afzal Mughal, Muhammad Ashraf, Zeeshan Akhtar, Imran Mani, Pervez Akhtar and Usman Muazzam said that the incumbent government had become insensible instead of helpless with respect to Dr Aafia Siddiqui's case. They strongly criticised government's lethargic attitude towards Dr Aafia case, saying that why Prime Minister Gilani did not raise voice for Dr Aafia's return to the country if he considered her as his sister.
They said efforts were being made deliberately through media to distort Dr Aafia's character while making delay in her case. "Under the US laws, Dr Aafia could be punished for three years under the crimes she is indicted for, but efforts are being made through using delaying tactics for increasing this sentence", they added.
The speakers also flayed the attitude of legal consultants, who were hired by the government after expending a huge amount of $2 millions saying that it seemed as a part of conspiracy increasing sentence of Dr Aafia. They also strongly criticised Pakistani Ambassador in the United States Hussain Haqqani saying that he never made any effort for arranging their meeting with Dr Aafia, and even his hired lawyers did not talk to us on this issue.
