Pakistan would continue to support the just cause of Kashmir until Kashmiris realise their right to self-determination to decide their future destiny, said Pakistan's Consul General in Manchester Salahuddin Chaudhry.
He was speaking at a function organised in Manchester in co-operation with Manchester City 'Council and Pakistan-Kashmiri Councillor's Forum, to observe "Kashmir Solidarity Day" to express support to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. It was attended by prominent personalities of the City Council, key members of the Forum and Pakistan and African community leaders.
Salahuddin Chaudhry explained the significance of the day and paid rich tributes to the unprecedented sacrifices made by the young and eider Kashmiris for their just cause.
The messages of President Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali on Kashmir Solidarity Day were read out on the occasion.
He said the latest peace initiative between Pakistan and India was a good beginning which would hopefully lead to start a peace process to resolve their all outstanding differences including Kashmir
Labour Councillors Afzal Khan said Britain was committed to supporting resolution of the Kashmir issue between Pakistan and India, through a dialogue process, which took into consideration the aspirations of Kashmiris themselves.
Richard Leese, Leader of the City Council, welcomed thaw between India-Pakistan and congratulated the two leaderships for their wise and timely initiative.
He said Britain welcomed the breakthrough during Saarc and would be doing all it could to encourage continued progress in this regard.
Many other Councillor's from different cities spoke on the occasion and called for early settlement of Jammu and Kashmir dispute to bring about peace to volatile region of South Asia
A resolution adopted on the occasion said the ongoing military action against the Kashmiri people in Indian occupied Kashmir must be stopped. The international media and human rights organisations should be all owed access to Indian occupied Kashmir.
India, it said should start immediately withdrawing all military personnel from occupied Kashmir to bring normalcy to the area. India should facilitate earliest holding of plebiscite under UN auspices to determine the will of the Kashmiris.
