Vin Diesel took to the stage of CinemaCon recently and confirmed that ‘Fast & Furious 8’ is happening and will reach theaters on April 14, 2017. But, with this there remain a ton of questions about who will be involved in the franchise.
The seventh installment recently released worldwide and raked up more than a billion dollars. The end of the movie pays a moving tribute to the late Walker, who ironically died in a car crash just after filming for the movie.
According to foreign media reports, Diesel was quoted as saying, “It means a lot to me to get your blessing. We were giddy and excited. You all gave me so much confidence. There was so much love”. Apparently, Cody Walker, brother of Paul, is in talks to join the cast in a more established role. At this point it’s unlikely that he will replace Paul - rather, he will likely take on a role as a new character in the eighth installment of the franchise.
Previously, Cody Walker helped shoot the remaining part of Paul Walker in ‘Furious 7’ after he died in a car crash.
Kurt Russel who had a short cameo in ‘Furious 7’ is likely to become a prime protagonist in an upcoming sequel. Vin Diesel hinted on the Jimmy Kimmel show that ‘supreme badass’ Kurt Russell was added to part seven as a tease for what the crew wanted to do in part eight.
Eighth installment will be set in New York and Dwyane ‘The Rock’ Johnson, who joined the ensemble in ‘Fast Five’ and quickly became a fan-favorite as DSS agent Luke Hobbs ‘might’ not return with the upcoming sequel.
According to Cinema Blend, James Wan was an unusual choice to helm Furious 7 after Justin Lin decided not to come back after directing multiple Fast films. It’s very possible that Wan could come back to direct a Fast & Furious 8, especially given the success of Furious 7. But a few months back, a story broke on Deadline that Lin would return to the series to direct a multi-part finale.
