ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Reform, Prof. Ahsan Iqbal Wednesday reviewed arrangements to observe the 100th death anniversary of the legendary poet Maulana Altaf Hussain Hali all across the country.
Chairing a meeting to finalize events on the 100th Death Anniversary of the legendary poet Maulana Altaf Hussain Hali, he asked various organizations to arrange programmes, seminars and other activities to mark the day.
He asked the Pakistan Post to finalize the design of postal stamp with the Hali's poetry printed on it along with his picture.
Prof. Ahsan Iqbal asked the Secretary Information to air series of programs on the legend poet on PTV besides making documentary on his Mussaddas.
"Academy of Letter should arrange a conference on this occasion", he said added that it should also write letters to the education secretaries of all four provinces to organize Mushairas and speech competition on Maulana Altaf Hussain Hali in schools.
"We will also recommend to the Prime Minister to declare 2015 as Hali Year on 100th years of Hali's death anniversary", he said.
He also requested the Aitchson College to hold special programs as Maulana Hali had served in the college as first teaching faculty.
The Higher Education Commission (HEC) should also organize events in universities particularly Urdu departments on the life of this legendary poet.
He also proposed to hold an international conference on Maulana Hali inviting poets and men of letters living abroad specially in India to highlight the role of Hali in awakening of Muslims in South Asia , which formed basis of Pakistan movement.
The minister stressed the need for recognizing national heroes and get the new generation familiar with our rich heritage.
The meeting was attended by the federal information secretary Muhammad Azam, member Development and Communication Ayesha Erabie, Chief Mass Media Dr Waheed Rana, official Spokesman of the ministry Amir Zamir and other officials of concerned departments.
