JOHANNESBURG: South Africa's rand weakened as much as 1.5 percent against the dollar on Monday, tracking a global retreat in commodity-linked currencies after weak economic data from China.
The rand hit a session low of 9.08 to the dollar and was at 9.0620 by 1003 GMT, weakening 1.33 percent from Friday's close at 8.9430.
