imageKARACHI: Commissioner Karachi, Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui directed the concerned officials on Friday to ensure immediate removal of all banners and flags from Shahrah-e-Faisal.

Chairing a meeting in his office, he said the concourse is one of the major gateways to the metropolis, particularly for the foreign visitors, and hence must be turned into a pleasant greeting point equally reflective of a positive image of the country's commercial hub.

The commissioner said all plantations on the thoroughfare must be adequately maintained and regularly pruned while no standing water of garbage may be allowed on the road.

The electric poles and bill boards must not be seen engulfed with tattered pieces of cloth, that perhaps once were flags of different political parties, said the commissioner.

"Banners of all sorts have to be an absolute no, while national flags and buntings to be used to decorate the thoroughfare on eve of national Independence Day must be removed by sun set the same day," he said.

Siddiqui said this is important as national flags must not witness sunset and traditionally have to be hoisted at the time of sun rise only.

He also ordered that all graffiti and wall chalking must be erased and boundary walls of public and private properties must be newly whitewashed with due care that they are no more turned into ugly pictures.
