RECORDER REPORT

ISLAMABAD: The government on Friday appointed Zafar Abbas Lak as Director General (DG), Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). Lak will replace the incumbent DG FIA, Javed Iqbal, who has reportedly refused to be part of the government campaign against Sharif brothers.

Sources said that Javed Iqbal, a grade-22 officer, was appointed as Secretary Ministry of Narcotics. They said that the development came following Iqbal’s refusal to become part of government campaign against Sharif brothers.

They said Javed Iqbal is a police officer of repute and follows rules for investigating of cases on merit.

Zafar Abbas Lak, former acting secretary of Ministry of Narcotics, has cooperated with the government particularly in the case of Prime Minister’s son Musa Gilani in the ephedrine quota scandal by transferring ANF investigators in the case. However, the transfers were suspended on the directives of the Supreme Court.
