KARACHI: Sindh government has sanctioned Rs 3.5 billion for purchase of fire fighting equipment including fire tenders and snorkel for the metropolis but the procurement process halted due to a stay order issued by the court in this regard.
Provincial Minister for Information Sharjeel Iman Memon in a statement issued here on Saturday said that the chief minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah had sanctioned the fund for purchase of fire tenders and snorkels to overcome shortage of the firefighting vehicles and equipment in Karachi but the procurement process was stayed by the court.
He said that the promise made to the affected families of Timber Market have been fulfilled. "We have released Rs 9 million to 90 families. This means Rs 100,000 has been given to each family purely for their day-to-day expenditures,".
Memon said that the assessment of the losses to the shopkeepers of the Timber Market is in progress, they would be compensated as soon as the assessment work is completed.
He said the businessmen's leader Siraj Qasim Teli, has been requested to get the assessment of the losses as early as possible so that the affectees of Timber market fire incident could be rehabilitated.
