power ISLAMABAD: The government has planned to increase the installed power generating capacity from 23,718 MW to 24,822 MW by 1,104 MW, which will be added to the main distribution system during the current fiscal year.

This generating capacity witnessed 980 MW increase during 2011 through addition of 420 MW in the PEPCO system and 560 MW the in KESC.

According to the latest data and plans, the capacity will be increased through Nanipu 364 MW, Fauji Wind 50, Jinnah HPP 96, UAE GT Faisalabad 268, Jamal Din Wali 76, Allai Khwar 121 and Duber Khwar 130 MW.

Similarly, last year, the target of enhanced capacity was achieved through Khan Khwar 72, Chashnup-II 325, Gomal Zam HPP 17 and Zorlu Wind 6 MW.

In line with the Framework of Growth Strategy (FEG), the implementation of power sector reforms and restructuring plan will continue during this fiscal year.

During the year, the work on Allai Khwar Hydel Power project of 121 MW is planned to start generation in October whereas, eight units of Jinnah HPP having composite generating capacity of 96 MW will be completed in December.

Moreover, a 1200 MW imported coal-based integrated jetty and power plant project is also being processed. On issuance of letter of intent, the feasibility study of the project has earlier been completed.

Rehabilitation of units 1 to 13 of GENCO-II, TPS Guddu, depending on the availability of funds, will add 405 MW to the national grid.

Genco-II Guddu is installing an additional 747 MW plant with the help of China, which will be completed after June 2013.
