Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FCCI) in collaboration with Government College Women University (GCWU) will plant one million saplings on independence day this year while business community will also help GCWU to set up a tree nursery over 200 acres of land in new campus of the university, said Rana Muhammad Sikandar-e-Azam Khan President Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry.

He was addressing the first meeting of the FCCI Standing Committee on Clean & Green Faisalabad.

He said that FCCI members are always taking keen interest in making this city lush green. He told that FCCI had twice planted trees along Canal Road with an estimated cost of Rs5 million each. However, he lamented that the construction of underpass has wasted their all efforts. He welcomed the visit of Robeena Farooq Vice Chancellor GCWU and assured her that tree plantation will be started as soon as the boundary wall of new campus will be completed. He said that Lions Club is also collaborating with FCCI in undertaking different welfare projects. "It has installed a water filtration plant in Madina Town Campus of the Government College Women University," he told and assured that more facilities would also be provided on need basis.

Continuing, Rana Muhammad Sikandar-e-Azam Khan said that other welfare organisations are also working in this city but they prefer cosmetics shows. "On the other hand FCCI is serious in making its projects result oriented," he added.

Dr Robeena Farooq Vice Chancellor Government College Women University told that 390 acres land has been allocated for the new campus of this university. She said that administration block and two hostels would also be constructed there. She told that boundary of this new campus will be completed within a period of one and half year, however, 50 percent work will be accomplished by the end of December.

She told that University has allocated 200 acres of land for raising tree nursery. "The plants prepared in it would be supplied to other departments and organisations to make Pakistan an environment friendly country," she said and underlined the need of canal water for this nursery. She urged upon the FCCI to help this University in getting sufficient quota of canal water for new campus.

Sajid Iqbal Sandhu Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee said that Faisalabad has many prestigious research organisations but their foot prints are not visible in this area. Appreciating the efforts of Vice Chancellor Robeena Farooq, he assured full support in getting maximum quota of canal water.

Tariq Tanveer announced to provide free seeds for this campus. He told that every girl student should plant at least ten saplings to make this campus greenery of the city. He requested the people to collect seeds of different seasonal fruits and handover the same to the college staff for its use in raising the nursery. This meeting was also attended by Bilal Waheed Sheikh Vice President FCCI, Muzmmil Sultan, Farooq Yousaf, Habib Ur Rehman Gill and Engineer Babar Shahzad. Later Chairman Standing Committee Rana Ikramullah Khan offered vote of thanks.
