With decline in platelets counts of the former Prime Minister to the level of around 39,000, the PML-N supremo's personal physician Dr Adnan on Saturday tweets that health of Nawaz Sharif remains 'critical.'

The Medical Board that is treating Nawaz Sharif here at the Services Hospital for the last 12 days held consultations and suggested some changes in medicines, sources said, adding: "Since Nawaz is facing multiple diseases, therefore, medical board is showing extra cautious and has decided to stop injections of steroids."

Dr Tahir Shamsi who was earlier called from Karachi was also consulted on phone and the board decided to give medicines instead of injections, the sources said, adding: "Nawaz's blood sugar in fasting is still on high side, therefore, efforts are being made to maintain his sugar and blood pressure levels."

On the other hand, Dr Adnan tweeted that doctors tried to reduce the steroids dose being given to Sharif but unfortunately resulted in drop in platelet count again. "The cause needs to be diagnosed and established without delay," he said.

He said, "A very delicate balance has to be maintained between coagulation and anti-coagulation to sustain fragile unstable health status."

Moreover, more tests of Sharif were conducted and in the light of reports, medication for his heart problem has been started. Dr Mehmood Ayaz, head of the medical board, said the doctors are optimistic that the former Prime Minister's condition will improve. "We are focused and conducting treatment with utmost care," he said.

It may be noted that Sharif was earlier diagnosed with Acute Immune Thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP), a bleeding disorder, in which the immune system destroys platelets. However, the doctors are busy in consultations over decline in platelets.

The sources claimed that a proposal is under consideration within Sharif family to shift him to Ittefaq Hospital or Sharif Medical City. However, nothing is final in this regard.
