Pakistan, India ink agreement on Kartarpur Corridor

• The two neighboring countries signed the agreement after a round of three talks.
• PM Imran Khan will inaugurate the corridor November 9.

After three rounds of talks, Pakistan and India signed on Thursday the agreement on Kartarpur Corridor, which is slated to be inaugurated next month ahead of the 550th birth anniversary of the founder of Sikhism Guru Nanak Dev.

The agreement was signed by Foreign Office Spokesperson Mohammad Faisal and Indian Joint Secretary SCL Das, at the Pakistan- India border in Narowal. Speaking to the media after the signing, the FO spokesperson said that the negotiation with India which was in progress for the past eight months, was tough and difficult because of the history between the two countries.

While giving the details, the spokesperson said that the corridor will be opened everyday for the pilgrims from dawn to dusk. He said 5000 Sikh pilgrims be accomadated and Pakistan will try to increase the number if there is more capacity.He further said the pilgrims will be required to just show their passport and no visa will be required.

Prime Minister Imran Khan will inaugurate the corridor on November 9, after which visa free link between Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur and Dera Baba Nanak shrine in India’s Punjab will open for the pilgrims.
