KARACHI: The Federal Minister for Railways, Ghulam Ahmed Bilour, was sanguine that there will be betterment in the Railways.
He was talking to reporters after inaugurating new bogies of Korakaram Express at the Karachi Cantonment Station on Friday.
The Minister was optimistic that steps taken will now help bring about improvements in the affairs of Pakistan Railways.
Elaborating, he pointed out that approval has been accorded for the `special repair' of 150 locomotives while 96 locomotives would be rehabilitated.
The Minister said that for this there will be an allocation of Rs. 6.1 billion. The amount Pakistan Railways get through banks, he added.
He said that a sum of Rs. five billion has been additionally approved for the repair of 150 locomotives.
Ghulam Ahmed Bilour further pointed out that 27 locomotives would be `reconditioned' and that money has also been approved for this.
He said that tenders would be floated for the acquisition of 150 new locomotives.
The Minister said that approval has also been given for 500
bogies and out of these 200 would be flat for carrying containers.
