Imam is being ‘unfairly treated’, claims Inzamam

Pakistan's outgoing chief selector Inzamam ul Haq once again has spoke out in favor of Pakistan opening batsman Imam-ul-Haq, saying that the batsman, who also happens to be Inzamam’s nephew, is being ‘unfairly treated.’

“Leaving the selection of twenty five players behind, the critics were always trying to associate me with the selection of Imam's. With the level of understanding I have regarding cricket, I believe Imam is being unfairly treated,” wrote Inzamam in his blog.

The former Pakistan captain said that Imam is a ‘useful opener’ for his side and has been averaging in 50s in limited overs cricket. However, Inzamam admitted that he may have inadvertently ignored talented players.

“I may have inadvertently ignored some talented cricketers, but my intention was clear. My priority has always been Pakistan's cricket team. I have never let my personal likes or dislikes influence the selection of the national cricket team,” admitted Inzamam.

Inzamam revealed that he left his chair when Imam’s selection was brought to the table. “When Imam-ul-Haq's name first came up during the selection of the national cricket team, I left my chair at the meeting. First, the Batting Coach Grant Flower and then Head Coach Mickey Arthur requested the selection committee to include Imam in the squad.’

Just days ago, Inzamam has announced that he would step down from his post as Pakistan cricket chief selector and would not seek a contract renewal.
