KARACHI: Thirteen thousand police personnel including 700 women cops will be on security duty at National Stadium during the fast approaching Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches.

Additional Inspector General of Police - Karachi, Dr Amir Shaikh addressing a press briefing at Pakistan National Stadium here Tuesday said the police department was already engaged in an extensive combing operation in the metropolis.

"This is to preempt any untoward incident during the most sought after international cricket matches," Karachi Police chief said.

Revival of international events in general and PSL matches in particular, he said was reflective of public confidence on security forces of the country.

Accompanied by DIG-East, DIG-Traffic, SSP-Gulshan and Pakistan Rangers' Sindh officials Dr Amir A Shaikh responding to queries of the media said there would be three security cordons during the event.

Besides fool proof security at the stadium and its vicinity, he said all routes from hotels to stadium would also be manned by special security police.

"There will be absolute coordination among the security forces, health department and emergency services," he said mentioning that ambulances and fire engines would be there on stand by basis.

Body search and scanning was said to be mandatory for all those entering the stadium premises while every spectator would be required to reach the venue two hours prior to commencement of the match.

"Starting time for every match will be 7 o' clock and gates of stadium for general public would be closed by 5 o' clock", the AIGP said.

Five different parking areas were said to have been developed from where people would be transported to the stadium via shuttle service.

He urged the citizens to help Karachi police and administration in making the event highly successful through being vigilant and extremely cautious.
