KCCI demands withdrawl of SRO-821(I) 2011

KARACHI: Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) has urged the government to withdraw SRO-821(I)/2011, making it mandatory for all purchases by unregistered person to mention CNIC/NTN.

In a statement issued here Wednesday, president KCCI Mian Abrar Ahmad stated that the said SRO, issued by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has created immense hurdles in doing business. The business and industrial community cannot comply with it, he added.

KCCI president, while criticising the repeated moves made by FBR to unilaterally impose condition of obtaining buyer's CNIC, reiterated that the Board should first complete the exercise by the registering the whole supply chain and remove exemptions.

He demanded that FBR should not burden the already registered tax payers by imposing condition of furnishing CNIC/NTN for their sales because business and Industrial community, already facing manifold problems like power, gas and water shortage, law and order situation and 2-weekly holidays.

Mian Abrar stated that every day numerous complaints were received from members on revised Income Tax, Sales Tax & Federal Excise Returns especially on CNIC/NTN condition.

He strongly urged the government that unilateral decision should not be taken by FBR and this is very unfortunate that major changes have been made without consultation with the business and industrial community of Karachi.

This has made it practically impossible to file the tax returns and would only result in declining tax revenue also force genuine tax payers' to operate outside the tax net.

"We are major stakeholder and representative of business and industrial community of Karachi, which alone contributes 68 percent of the revenue so before framing any policy, the KCCI should be taken on board", he observed.
