Pakistan former hockey player and Olympian Wasim Feroz, believes that the downfall of Pakistan’s hockey is because the players are married and do not have fresh legs.

Blaming the constant reshuffling of hockey management, Feroz while talking to a local media said “You are bringing back the older players, a lot of them are married and do not have the strength and fresh legs.”

Feroz further added that there was no combination of senior and junior players in the Pakistan’s squad.

The statements come after Pakistan dismal show in the ongoing 2018 Hockey World Cup. Pakistan run at the tournament concluded after they were thrashed by Belgium 5-0, to setup a quarter-final clash against Germany.

Earlier, Pakistan hockey legend and Olympic gold medalist Hasan Sardar said that he would have preferred cricket over hockey in the current scenario.

"There is no hockey culture in Pakistan now. People are into cricket more, people follow cricket more. I think that if I was a kid now with talent in hockey, I would prefer playing cricket than hockey. People are charmed by cricket," Sardar told PTI.

Considered one of the powerhouses of field hockey, Pakistan hardly remains a shadow of its former self as it struggles to survive in major tournaments.
