Sindh Assembly on Friday offered condolence over the death of its former member - Altaf Unar and adjourned the session till Monday morning without any business. The provincial legislators paid tribute to him for his services to the country as a lawmaker and offered condolence to his family during the session, which Speaker Aga Siraj Khan Durrani chaired.
The speaker suspended business of the house till next Monday on a motion, which members unanimously passed to carry over the agenda for next sitting. The house remained open to offer Fateha during its preliminary session. A number of lawmakers from PPP, MQM, PML-F and PML-N requested for prayers to their parties' workers and leaders who either die of natural causes or killed in the continuing violence in the city or elsewhere in the province.
MQM's members again demanded release of their detained workers at the earliest. They alleged that plain-clothed intelligence officials continue to pick up their workers from homes without showing any reasons or warrants. PPP lawmakers paid tribute to the former members of the provincial assembly, Altaf Unar, who died some days back. The PML-F lawmakers condemned the killing of JSQM leader - Maqsood Qureshi and offered Fateha for him.
The lawmakers also offered Fateha for people died from famine in Thar and urged the government to ensure that such a situation must not occur again. Some also raised the issue of Lyari gang war, which took at least 16 people last week and called for efforts to end the continuing violence there. A lawmaker also requested for prayers for the missing Malaysian plane's passengers.
The Speaker said the provincial ministers should direct their department's secretaries and key officials to remain present in the house during the session. Upon this, Sindh Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Dr Sikandar Mandhro, said the secretaries would have to ensure their presence in the house. Chief Minister Sindh, who had to reply to members' questions on industries department, failed to show up in the house. Latter, Dr Mandhro read out a motion for suspension of the house immediately after the preliminary session and said the agenda should be carried over to Monday sitting, which the house approved.
Now a privilege motion by a lady lawmaker, Khairunisa Mughal, an adjournment motion by Poonjo Bheel and Zubair Ahmed Khan will be discussed during next sitting. Similarly, the speaker deferred to announce a panel of four chairmen for the house, besides announcement of assent to bills including The Sindh Emergency Procurement Bill, 2014, The Prevention of Defacement of Property Bill, 2013, The Sindh Solid Waste Management Board Bill, 2014, The Registration (Sindh Amendment) Bill, 2013, The Sindh Healthcare Commission Bill, 2013, The Sindh Environmental Protection Bill, 2014, The Sindh Building Control (Amendment) Bill, 2014 and The Sindh Service Tribunals (Amendment) Bill, 2014.
Introduction of the government bill No 8, 2014 - The Provincial Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill, 2014, election of standing committees and other committees and extension of date for presentation of a report of a special committee to probe into the matter, which Taimur Talipur has raised, now will be taken up next week.
